COPE Scotland
The voices of lived experience

COPE SCOTLAND - A dynamic organisation led by the voices of the lived experience of mental, emotional, distress and health inequalities.

We offer direct services in West Glasgow. Through our website, we share widely our hints and tips for self-help, self-management and wellbeing. Working with partners across Scotland, the UK and beyond, we seek to find new ways to promote wellness, mitigate the impact of inequality and build resilience to the challenges of life.

Co-design and production are core to our ethos and our driving purpose is to be kind.

FAQS

When did COPE begin?

We began in 1991 as an Urban Aid funded project called the Drumchapel Mental Health Consumer Enablement project.

We asked local volunteers to help us ask people what they wanted us to do to achieve the above, we asked everyone you could think of. The results of that were twofold:

  • Create community based mental health support services
  • Challenge the stigma around mental ill health

Listening to the voices of lived experience and seeking solutions together; including how to invest resources, has been core to our practice ever since.
