Wellness at Food Banks?

Wellness at Food Banks?
We have just completed a pilot piece of work with a local foodbank to understand more about the challenges people face and what we and others can do to help.

Initial developments coming from this includes:

  • Further work around distributing population based wellbeing materials along with items people select at the foodbank
  • Specific workshops, advice and information on issues people shared were important to them
  • Explore interest from foodbank volunteers to attend capacity building training at COPE Scotland including awareness of services to signpost to, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills training and wellness training for their own wellbeing
  • We noted an increase in referral to COPE from the foodbank for one to one services as people and volunteers became more aware of what we do

With local people and services including the G15 project and National Body Our Voice, we are building links with the DWP on information on supports available to be shared with people if sanctioned, we co designed a simple reference flier of where to go for support or advice in Drumchapel if you are sanctioned, these services can also help link into others where appropriate.
