Thanks to the creativity of many people we now have 3 different sets of co-designed affirmation cards, on building confidence, finding life purpose and the value of lifelong learning.
We are keen to explore further how we support men to look after their wellbeing and had planned to create a set of affirmation cards for men, by men.
However, our early discussions with men suggested that actually using affirmation cards wasn't really something they would do……………..okay back to the drawing board! So we asked what would you suggest and as always we were so glad we did. As the ideas which were suggested made far more sense.
What was suggested was mugs or coasters with something on it which would encourage a conversation. What men shared was they often didn't know how to start a conversation about how they felt and looking at affirmation cards while inspirational didn't encourage other people to talk to them, whereas, a set of say 4 coasters you put down when guests come to visit, they read the coasters and start a conversation about what the coasters say would make it easier to have those chats
We think this is a great idea. We are grateful to a group of local men who decided to walk the West Highland way and raise money for COPE.
These funds we plan to invest in these new materials as a way to honour the effort they made on our behalf…..including a shortcut, which ended up a long cut and had them walking till very late in the evening!
So our next challenge is, what is the message which shall go on the mugs or coasters? And this is where we need help …………….again from men as you know what will work for you.
What images and words, sayings would you include on a mug or coaster which would encourage conversations around men's mental health and wellbeing.
