Moving to New Premises

NEW Address

Caring Over People's Emotions (C.O.P.E.) are moving to new premises on the 31st May 2019. We are very grateful to John Oliver who has been our landlord since 1995 for the time we spent at Drumchapel Rd. Regrettably, the building just became too big for us and as such a super space we felt it only fair to give others a chance to use it.

We had looked at the possibility of sharing 20 Drumchapel Rd with others, but the time didn't seem right for that to happen, which we understood, so we are moving on to new premises at Garscadden House and everyone is very excited about that and we continue to explore with our Jigsaw partners the future of service provision and connections beyond March 2020.

When C.O.P.E. began it was called the Drumchapel Mental Health Consumer Enablement project, which became CEP then C.O.P.E. We started with a chair in the social work department, then a room at 3/1 31 Kendoon Avenue, then all of 3/1 and 3/2 Kendoon Ave with Kendoon Housing Association and then moved to 20 Drumchapel Rd.

It shows life can be a circle as our neighbours at Garscadden House include Kendoon Housing Association!

We have done all we can to minimise disruption to clients during the preparation for the move and in fact, when we do move are seeking to minimise disruption as much as possible.

However, we are settling into new premises and we do have team members going off on holiday; as we are now coming into the holiday season. As ever when someone phones C.O.P.E. they will be offered an appointment. In 28 years, we have strived never to have a waiting list, it just may mean the appointment is within 20 days as opposed to 10, though as ever we will use appointments when people cancel to see people as soon as possible. C.O.P.E. offer individual support services to people in West Glasgow only which includes:

  • Drumchapel
  • Blairdardie
  • Yoker
  • Knightswood
  • Anniesland
  • Temple
  • Scotstoun
  • Whiteinch

When C.O.P.E. began it was for Drumchapel only, however, over the year's funders asked us to cover a wider area. This doesn't mean our funding increased, in fact, core budgets are less now than they were in 1999. But we have continued to serve communities to the best of our ability.

The COPEScotland website will shortly focus more on West Glasgow only as the new COPEDigital site emerges.

On the COPEScotland site will be a diary of events not only of things C.O.P.E. is offering but also what others share they are doing, we will report more on this once finalised. COPE Scotland offers workshops in partnership with C.O.P.E, population-based work and online wellness materials as well as community capacity building such as the SafeTALK workshops (suicide awareness training)ideas on self-management and self-care and working with the voices of lived experience co-design new tools to promote wellness e.g. the affirmation cards.

The following is the wee card tells you more about where we are going. We will also have an open day in the new premises for people to get along and see how C.O.P.E. is settling in.
