Using the senses to relax

We have five basic senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch

The sensing organs associated with each sense send information to the brain to help us understand and perceive the world around us.

We can learn to use our senses to promote feelings of calm and relaxation and to help us be mindful and live in the moment. Interestingly we have other senses we can use to relax including body awareness and sense of movement.

Some of our strongest memories can be associated with our sense of smell a perfume which reminds you of someone, or cinnamon which makes you think of winter and perhaps Christmas approaching.

Please if you have the time watch the wee video we have put together on using the senses to relax.

We have also produced a little tips sheet which elaborates on the points in the video.

There are simple things we can do every day which is kind to ourselves, others and the environment, take time today to do something nice for you, you do matter.
